Library & METC Workshops

The Library provides many free workshops to the students, staff, and faculty of Rush

All workshops meet on the 9th floor of the Armour Academic Center (AAC) in room 902 AAC (near the METC). Each workshop is approximately 1.5 hours long. All workshops are free.

Group and individual instruction available. Our free one-hour InfoConsults provide individualized instruction tailored to your level of experience and area of interest. Available Monday - Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Ask about our consultations on using other databases and information tools.

Library Workshops:

Library Survival Skills

Designed for office staff in a medical department. Learn how to locate articles, verify citations, and order documents online. Includes an optional tour of the Library. Participants must know how to use the Internet.
 
   

Online Searching

Provides a detailed overview of the Library's extensive online resources. Emphasizes concise focused searching of Ovid MEDLINE and other health care information resources.
 
   

PubMed

PubMed is the freely accessible online database of biomedical journal citations and abstracts created by the U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM®). This workshop emphasizes using PubMed to retrieve concise and relevant search results. Participants will learn how to use the basic and MeSH search features, as well as, how to save search results using My NCBI.
 
   

RefWorks

RefWorks is a web-based bibliographic management software used to generate reference lists. In this workshop, participants will create a RefWorks account, learn to import citations directly from a few of the Library's most popular databases, organize collections of references, and generate a bibliograhy.
 
   

EndNote

EndNote simplifies writing papers by organizing your citations into a personal database. You can add references or format a bibliography with just a click of the mouse. This is an advanced class: students must know how to search MEDLINE using OvidWeb and have experience managing files using Windows.
 
   

METC Workshops:

  

PowerPoint

This workshop covers how to add slides to a presentation based on a design template. How to create autoshapes, draw lines and shapes, add images slides, and animate the slide or presentation.
Restricted to Rush University students & faculty only.
 
   

Excel

This workshop will introduce the basic concepts and use of spreadsheets in Excel. Excel terms and definitions will be explained as well as how to create and enter data into a new Workbook, use formulas, format data, and create a chart from Excel data

Dealing with Images

This workshop will cover how to find medical images from various online sources and how to scan them for presentation. A basic overview of copyright law regarding the use of images as well as an explanation on image resolution and importing images into documents and presentations will be included.
