| Web Browser Proxy Configuration
To use your proxy account, you must make some simple one-time changes
to the configuration of your web browser. You will need your proxy
username and password*. Please select your Web browser/operating
system that best matches your computer from the choices below:

* In most cases, you should receive your proxy username and password within five to seven business days from the date of your application,
upon verification of status. It is very important that you register
with the library before signing up for a proxy. If registering for
the library online, please allow twenty four hours before applying
for a proxy account. If registering in person, please inform the
library staff that you will be applying for a proxy account.
If you supply a Rush email address we will send your username
and password to that address. If you have supplied an e-mail address
other than a Rush e-mail address, we will send your username and
password to the supplied address and also make an attempt to send
a courtesy copy to your Rush address.
- Open Internet Explorer.
- On the Menu Bar, go to Tools and select Internet Options.
- Click on the Connections tab, and then Lan Settings.
- Click on "Use a Proxy Server for your Lan
"
- In the ADDRESS box enter: libraryproxy.rush.edu
- In the PORT box enter: 81
- Click OK to exit and save your changes.
During either the configuration process or when you go to an Internet site, the proxy server logon screen will appear. Enter your proxy server account username and password. The proxy server will validate your account. Please be patient, as this could take several minutes. To see if you have successfully configured your browser, click on the red box at the top of this page. If the addresses match, your proxy account works.
To undo the configuration changes, go back to the Connections tab in Internet Options, and delete libraryproxy.rush.edu from the Address box & 81 from the Port box. Remove the check mark from "Use a Proxy Server for your LAN" and click on OK. Your proxy settings have been removed.
Firefox Version 1.5
- On the Menu bar, click Tools, then Options.
- Under the General tab, click Connection Settings.
- Click Manual Proxy Configuration.
- In the ADDRESS box enter: libraryproxy.rush.edu
In the PORT box enter: 81
- Click OK.
When you go to an Internet site, the proxy server logon screen will appear. Enter your proxy server account username and password. The proxy server will validate your account. - On the Menu bar, click Tools, then Options.
- Go to the Advanced Tab, and the Network tab. Click Settings.
- Click the Manual Proxy Configuration button.
- In the ADDRESS box enter: libraryproxy.rush.edu
In the PORT box enter: 81
- Click OK.
When you go to an Internet site, the proxy server logon screen will appear. Enter your proxy server account username and password. The proxy server will validate your account. To undo the configuration changes, go back to the Settings in Options, and delete libraryproxy.rush.edu from the Address box & 81 from the Port box. Click the "Direct Connection to the Internet" button, and click OK. Your proxy settings have been removed.
- Open the Edit menu and choose Preferences.
- Under the Advanced category, click Proxies.
- Check "Manual proxy configuration."
- For each of the following five boxes, HTTP Proxy, SSL Proxy, FTP Proxy, Gopher Proxy, Socks Host , type in the following: libraryproxy.rush.edu
- In each Port box, type in 81
- Click on OK to exit and save your changes.

To undo the configuration changes, go back to the Preferences, and delete libraryproxy.rush.edu and port 81 from all of the boxes. Remove the check mark from "Manual proxy configuration" and click on OK. Your proxy settings have been removed.
MAC OS X Only:
System X is recommended.
(Not all versions of System X display the same way. Therefore the instruction below may need minor modifications.)
1. From the Apple Icon in the Menu Bar choose "System Preferences"
2. Under Internet & Networks, choose "Network"
3. Within the pop-up box, choose the “Proxies” tab
4. Check the box for "Web Proxy (HTTP)"
5. In the highlighted text box, enter the web address "libraryproxy.rush.edu"
6. In the box marked Port, enter the number 81
7. You will be prompted for a password. Enter the password provided by Information Services.
8. Your web browser may also need to be configured according the directions below. (This is not always necessary)
9. To turn off the proxy, open your network connection and uncheck the "Web Proxy (HTTP)" box.
Web Browser Configuration:
From the "Explorer" or "Netscape" browsers menu bar open "Preferences".
Find Proxies under "Advanced" in Netscape or "Networks" in IE
Click on Settings.
In Netscape:
For each of the following five boxes, HTTP Proxy, SSL Proxy, FTP Proxy, Gopher Proxy, Socks Host , type in the following: libraryproxy.rush.edu
In each Port box, type in 81
Click on OK to exit and save your changes.
For IE:
Fill in Web proxy box and then click "use web proxy for all"
Macintosh OS 8 and 9
- From the menu bar, go to Edit and select Preferences.
- Select the option Proxies and place a check mark by the box labeled "Web Proxy".
- Type into the text box: libraryproxy.rush.edu and then click on Settings.
- In the Port text box, enter: 81 then click the OK button.
- Click the OK button to exit and save your settings.
