FROM TRASH CAN TO WORKING PLAN
HOW TO SOLVE YOUR MIXED MEDIA BLUES

Throwing away CD-ROMs, disks, and videos that come with books and journals is no longer the only answer, although it is the most expedient one. At first sight, "mixed media" appeared to merely duplicate the printed texts, but this is no longer the case. The current trend has publishers supplementing the print with original data in electronic formats. Collection development, cataloging, circulation, serials, reference, systems, and learning resource centers play cooperative roles in successfully providing mixed media access for the library community. Representatives from these departments at our institution developed a process for doing just that. This poster will outline our workflow of mixed media that includes: selecting, editing bibliographic records, labeling, storing, circulating, providing designated use points, loading data files onto workstations, and publicizing.
