What is Viread?
Viread is the first drug of a new class of antivirals called nucleotide
reverse transcriptase inhibitors.
How does Viread work?
Viread works the same way that nucleoside reverse transcriptase
inhibitors work and that is to inhibit specific HIV viral enzymes. This
prevents viral replication and results in a decrease in viral load and increase
in T-cells (CD4). Viread must always be taken in combination with other
antivirals.
How to take Viread?
Viread comes as a 300mg tablet and is taken once a day and should be taken
with food. Viread requires dose reduction if you have kidney disease.
What does Viread look like?
Viread is a light blue egg-shaped tablet with name GILEAD and the number
4331 imprinted on one side.
What are the side effects of Viread?
Viread is very well tolerated with few side effects.
Are There Potential Drug Interaction
Yes - If Viread is taken with Videx the dose of Videx should be reduced to 250mg daily. If Viread is taken with Reyataz (atazanavir)
the dose should be 300mg Reyataz plus 100mg Norvir (ritonavir)
