Trizivir (zidovudine 300mg + lamivudine 150 mg + abacavir 300 mg)
Trizivir |
How does Trizivir work ?
All three of the medications in Trizivir help lower the amount of HIV virus
in the blood. This results in slowing down the HIV virus from destroying
the immune system and therefore helps keep a person healthy for as long as
possible.
How should Trizivir be taken ?
Trizivir can be taken with or without food. The dose of Trizivir is one
tablet twice a day (one tablet in the morning and one tablet in the
evening).
It is very important not to miss or skip any doses of Trizivir. The fewer
doses a person skips the fewer opportunities the HIV virus has to develop
resistance to HIV medication.
What does Trizivir look like ?
Trizivir tablets are shaped like a football and blue-green in color. One
side of the tablet is imprinted with GX LL1.
What are the potential side effects of Trizivir ?
The potential side effects of Trizivir are the same as Ziagen, Epivir, and
Retrovir. Therefore, any person who could not tolerate or had side effects
from Ziagen, Epivir, or Retrovir should not take Trizivir. Of particular
importance anybody who had the allergic "hypersensitivity" reaction to
abacavir (Ziagen) must NEVER take Trizivir. Please see information provided
for abacavir (Ziagen) regarding the hypersensitivity reaction or talk to
your medical provider.
